FOO FIGHTERS - Concrete And Gold - LP €26.99, CD €13.99 (Columbia) ‘Concrete and Gold’ marries some of the most insanely heavy Foo Fighters riffs ever with lush harmonic complexities courtesy of a first time team-up with producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Pink). The first taste of which came in the form of anthem of the summer “Run” which was described by The Times as ‘epic’, Music Week as ‘classic’ and Shortlist as ‘the best thing they’ve done in years’. Concrete and Gold was written and performed by Foo Fighters, produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters. GARY NUMAN - Savage: Songs From A Broken World - 2xLP €28.99 (BMG) ‘Savage: Songs From A Broken World’ is the 22nd studio album from Gary Numan. Released on BMG this album, with a narrative that’s set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future. There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so and human kindness and decency are just a dim and distant memory. Western and Eastern cultures have merged, more because of the need to simply survive than any feelings of greater tolerance or understanding. It’s a harsh, savage environment, as are the survivors who still roam across it. PRINCE - 4Ever - 4xLP boxset €67.99 (Rhino) ‘Prince 4Ever’ brings together 40 of Prince’s best-loved songs, including the blockbuster hits “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Kiss,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Purple Rain,” “Raspberry Beret,” “Sign O’ The Times,” “Alphabet Street,” “Batdance,” and “Cream”. The compilation includes “Moonbeam Levels” — a previously unreleased song originally recorded in 1982 during the 1999 sessions and later considered for the never released Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album. Prince 4Ever will also arrive with a 12-page booklet of never-before-seen photos by acclaimed photographer Herb Ritts. Four 140g vinyl in a lift-top box with a 4 page booklet THE DOORS - The Singles - 20x7” boxset €165, 2xCD+BluRay €20.99, 2xCD €16.99 (Rhino) The Doors’ 50th anniversary celebration continues this summer with a new Singles collections that spotlight every single and B-side the band released in the U.S., all gathered together for the first time. The collection includes the single versions from all six of the landmark studio albums the quartet released between 1967 and 1971, including classics like “People Are Strange,” “Love Her Madly” and “Riders On The Storm.” Also included on the CD versions are four mono radio versions of some of the band’s biggest hits, such as “Hello, I Love You” and “Touch Me,” which have never been made available anywhere after being sent to radio around their original release. The B-sides – many of which are making their CD debut – add another dimension to the band’s legacy with such stellar tracks as “Who Scared You,” which appeared in March 1969 as the flipside to “Wishful Sinful,” and a cover of Willie Dixon’s “(You Need Meat) Don’t Go No Further,” which was paired with the 1971 smash “Love Her Madly.” THE STYLE COUNCIL - Moderism: A New Decade - 2xLP €32.99 (Polydor) Motivated by the underground club scene, Weller chose another new direction for the last album – his take on the UK deep-house or garage scene. Featuring Sure Is Sure, which went on to become a big bootleg dance hit throughout Europe and the instrumental - That Spiritual Feeling - one of the key cuts of the then-new acid jazz scene. However, upon its completion in 1989, it was rejected by the label Polydor, which led to the band breaking up. It was eventually released in 1998 on the box set, The Complete Adventures of The Style Council. Orange coloured heavyweight vinyl, remastered at Abbey Road with original packaging and download codes. THE STYLE COUNCIL - Confessions Of A Pop Group - LP €24.99 (Polydor) Confessions Of A Pop Group is probably the band’s most experimental and divisive album, with hints of Beach Boys, classical music (Weller was listening to Debussy and Satie, amongst others around this time) and jazz influences. Songs such as the nine-minute title track and the ‘Three Piece Suite’ of The Gardener of Eden, an avant-garde mix of classical and jazz stylings, were new territory for The Style Council, and an even more radical departure from the sound of The Jam. Straight pop-oriented songs exist though – the hit single Life at a Top People's Health Farm, How She Threw It All Away and Why I Went Missing are regarded as lost Weller classics. Lilac coloured heavyweight vinyl, remastered at Abbey Road with original packaging and download codes. BEYONCE - Lemonade - 2xLP €31.99 (Sony) Double 180g yellow vinyl plus download code to both the album and ‘Lemonade’ film. Also includes booklet. HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR - Omnion - 2xLP €26.99, CD €13.99 (BMG) The new Hercules and Love Affair album, ‘Omnion’, is a vital step forward and sideways from what came before. The band, renowned for their killer disco-tech sound on stage and record, will cause ripples with eleven songs that sparkle with faith and tolerance as a response to our troubling times. Thus Hercules’s fourth album sallies forth into new territory, representing a new-found engagement with the world. LINDA RONSTADT - Simple Dreams - LP €23.99, CD €13.99 (Asylum) 40 years ago, Linda Ronstadt released one of the most successful albums of her ground breaking career in 1977 with Simple Dreams. The new expanded version features remastered audio plus a trio of live songs taken from a 1980 concert performance. VARIOUS ARTISTS - Dimitri From Paris Presents Salsoul Mastermix - 2xCD €14.99 (Salsoul) ‘Dimitri From Paris Presents Salsoul Mastermix’ sees the disco connoisseur mix and re-edit records from Salsoul’s extraordinary back-catalogue. When it comes to disco, Dimitri from Paris is a genuine authority and the ultimate connoisseur; a gentleman DJ who carefully cultivates an image yet eschews spectacle in favour of fastidiously executed musical selections, drawing on four decades of glorious music. Anyone who has experienced a Dimtri From Paris set, or listened to one of his celebrated remixes – of Chic, Prince, Bjork, the list goes on – will understand the deep respect and love he has for disco: and none more than for that king of disco imprints: Salsoul.
