Regarded by many as The Smiths’ best album (and by some, as one of the greatest albums ever made!) ‘The Queen Is Dead’ has cast a huge influence over subsequent generations since it was first released in the summer of 1986.
This reissue represents the first time that The Smiths’ back catalogue has been revisited in such a way. The album features several of the band’s finest moments including the title track and ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’, as well as the iconic singles ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’ and ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’.

‘Ken’ is the follow-up to 2015’s critically acclaimed ‘Poison Season’, which received critical praise from The Guardian, MOJO and Uncut, amongst others. ‘Ken’ was produced by Josh Wells of Black Mountain, who has been the drummer in Destroyer since 2012. The album was recorded in its entirety in the jam space/studio space that the group call The Balloon Factory. Partly formed out of the Art Department of London’s Island Records HQ in 1978, Basement 5 were an innovative and highly original black post punk group who created a kind of politically charged, futurist dub. Their lyrics were an attempt to reflect the situation of young people in Britain in the era of Thatcherism, high unemployment, strikes, racism and working class poverty. The seething resentment, dub noise and sheet metal riffage was welded into a mighty sound by Hannett that stands the test of time.

Following the success of their all-star collaborative project ‘Outside The Echo Chamber’, Coldcut (Ninja Tune co-founders) and Adrian Sherwood (On-U Sound) return with a masterly 10” rework of the Hindi-Urdu love song ’Kajra Mohabbat Wala’. With the help of the late guitarist Babu Choudhary, Coldcut re-recorded the 60s Bollywood classic with cult Indian vocalist Hamsika Iyer before taking it into the On-U Sound sessions.

The band’s breakthrough record It’s My Life saw the arrival of producer and multi-instrumentalist Tim Friese-Greene, who became a significant creative force in the band and an unofficial fourth member for the remainder of its existence. It’s My Life saw the band seek a less synthesized sound and less New Romantic image. The new sound gave the band commercial success, with the title track becoming a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. The album also contained the single ‘Such a Shame’ (a song inspired by the book The Dice Man) which became a Top 10 hit across Europe. A third single, Dum Dum Girl, was also a success in Europe and NZ in particular.
