Regarded by many as The Smiths’ best album (and by some, as one of the greatest albums ever made!) ‘The Queen Is Dead’ has cast a huge influence over subsequent generations since it was first released in the summer of 1986.
This reissue represents the first time that The Smiths’ back catalogue has been revisited in such a way. The album features several of the band’s finest moments including the title track and ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’, as well as the iconic singles ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’ and ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’.
‘The Queen Is Dead’ is released on the following formats – all of which feature the 2017 master of the original album:
5LP box – featuring the 2017 master of the album, additional recordings and the ‘Live In Boston’recording. Housed in lift-off box with 2 double gatefolds and 1 single sleeve pressed on 180g heavy weight vinyl.
Deluxe 3CD / 1 DVD box set – features the 2017 master of the album; additional recordings featuring demos, b-sides and alternative versions; the ‘Live In Boston’ album recorded at the Great Woods Center For The Performing Arts on 5 th August 1986; and a DVD featuring the 2017 master of album in 96kHz / 24-bit PCM stereo and ‘The Queen Is Dead – A Film By Derek Jarman’.

DESTROYER - Ken - LP + bonus 7” €27.99 (Dead Oceans) ‘Ken’ is the follow-up to 2015’s critically acclaimed ‘Poison Season’, which received critical praise from The Guardian, MOJO and Uncut, amongst others. ‘Ken’ was produced by Josh Wells of Black Mountain, who has been the drummer in Destroyer since 2012. The album was recorded in its entirety in the jam space/studio space that the group call The Balloon Factory. However, unlike ‘Poison Season’, ‘ken’ was not recorded as a ‘band’ record, though everyone in the band does make an appearance. Limited edition yellow vinyl plus a bonus 7”.
CIRCUIT DES YEUX - Reaching For Indigo - LP €22.99 (Drag City) The fifth LP from Haley Fohr aka Circuit Des Yeux. Electric and acoustic guitars, brass, strings, organs, synths and drums appear from various guest musicians over the course of the record but the real standout sound is Fohr’s unique voice. COLLEEN - A Flame My Love, A Frequency - LP €21.99 (Thrill Jockey) French multi-instrumentalist Colleen (Cécile Schott) is fearless in her willingness to explore new sounds and new ways of creating music as a solo performer. On her new album ‘A Flame My Love, A Frequency’ she introduces the most drastic change to her music since she began singing on her fourth album, setting aside the viola da gamba she is known for in exchange for all electronic instrumentation - Moog pedals and Critter and Guitari synthesizers.
BASEMENT 5 - 1965-1980 - LP €24.99 (PIAS) BASEMENT 5 - In Dub - LP €18.99 (PIAS) Re-issues of the debut album from 1980 (not 1965!) and also the companion piece ‘In Dub’. Produced by legendary producer Martin Hannett. Partly formed out of the Art Department of London's Island Records HQ in 1978, Basement 5 were an innovative and highly original black post punk group who created a kind of politically charged, futurist dub. Their lyrics were an attempt to reflect the situation of young people in Britain in the era of Thatcherism, high unemployment, strikes, racism and working class poverty. The seething resentment, dub noise and sheet metal riffage was welded into a mighty sound by Hannett that stands the test of time.
COLDCUT x ON-U SOUND - Kajra - 10” €10.99 (Ahead Of Our Time) Following the success of their all-star collaborative project ‘Outside The Echo Chamber’, Coldcut (Ninja Tune co-founders) and Adrian Sherwood (On-U Sound) return with a masterly 10” rework of the Hindi-Urdu love song ’Kajra Mohabbat Wala’. With the help of the late guitarist Babu Choudhary, Coldcut re-recorded the 60s Bollywood classic with cult Indian vocalist Hamsika Iyer before taking it into the On-U Sound sessions.
TALK TALK - It’s My Life - LP €18.99 (Rhino) The band’s breakthrough record It’s My Life saw the arrival of producer and multi-instrumentalist Tim Friese-Greene, who became a significant creative force in the band and an unofficial fourth member for the remainder of its existence. It’s My Life saw the band seek a less synthesized sound and less New Romantic image. The new sound gave the band commercial success, with the title track becoming a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. The album also contained the single ‘Such a Shame’ (a song inspired by the book The Dice Man) which became a Top 10 hit across Europe. A third single, Dum Dum Girl, was also a success in Europe and NZ in particular.
LEROY HUTSON - Anthology 1972-84 - 2xLP €23.99, CD €12.99 (Acid Jazz) Acid Jazz release a compilation of Hutson’s work from 1972-1984. A legend to soul fans, his catalogue has been increasingly sought after by collectors and producers since the last time it was widely available nearly 20 years ago. Licensed from Mr Hutson himself, this represents his first approved Anthology, and comes in a beautiful package with an essay by soul expert and Mojo award-winning writer Tony Rounce and memorabilia and photos from Mr. Hutson’s own personal archive.

This second set sees the PSB albums ‘Yes’ from 2009 and ‘Elysium’ from 2012 reissued on October 20th . Both LPs are pressed on 180g vinyl (Elysium comes in a gatefold sleeve). The CD version of ‘Elysium’ comes with a bonus disc ‘Further Listening 2011-2012’ featuring B-sides, demoes and remixes.

Original producer Richard Alderson oversaw the restoration and remastering of the tapes, allowing us to hear with jolting clarity the original sound of Pearls Before Swine. Notes from Richard and PBS leader Tom Rapp lend historical perspective and Tom adds his reflections on each of the songs as well. Listen again - and hear for the first time, perhaps - the sound of ‘One Nation Underground’.
