Niamh Bury announces that her highly anticipated debut album Yellow Roses will be released on Friday, 29th March via Claddagh Records. Produced by Brian Brían Mac Gloinn (Ye Vagabonds), Yellow Roses features 10 songs including the singles ‘Beehive’, ‘Who Am I To Tell Him?’, and ‘Discovery’.
Niamh says of the new single: “Budapest was written during a cold February in Dublin.
It's about the places we escape to in our imaginations – outer space or a city we’re
dreaming of packing up and leaving to. It’s about the yearning to step outside of your
own story to chase that feeling of being a small part of a bigger picture.”
Ever since releasing her first single with Claddagh Records in July 2023, Niamh Bury has
been hailed as one of Irish folk’s most exciting new talents; a particularly prestigious coup
during a time when the genre is garnering so much attention around the world. The
respected UK music magazine CLASH referred to Niamh in an interview as “The rising
voice breaking boundaries for Irish folk”. RTÉ Radio 1 featured every one of her singles on their coveted ‘RTÉ Radio 1 Recommends’ list. The Sunday Times featured her on the cover of their Culture Magazine as her first single ‘Beehive’ was released – an incredible
achievement for a new artist – such is the regard in which Niamh and her music are held.
Ending 2023 on a high note, Niamh stunned audiences at Other Voices Dingle where she
played three very special sets: an intimate acoustic concert at An Diséart against the
backdrop of the chapel’s famous Harry Clarke stained glass windows - to say you could
hear a pin drop is an understatement; a packed out O’Sullivan’s Courthouse which
delighted those lucky enough to squeeze into the tiny pub; and an incredible, string-
laden performance at Other Voices’ The Other Room venue, accompanied by revered
musicians Caimin Gilmore on double bass and Kate Ellis on cello – this performance will
be aired on RTÉ One television this spring.
The new year began with Niamh being named in the Irish Times’ noted ‘50 People to
Watch in 2024’ list; they wrote, “Insightful, talented and invigorating, Niamh Bury is folk’s
most interesting new star”. With the release of Yellow Roses on Friday, 29th March, fans can expect to hear 10 considered and lovingly-crafted songs that conjure maps of conversations with oneself, loved ones, imaginary characters and those who have passed on to other worlds. Each is an attempt to arrive at some kind of empathy, understanding and acceptance. The music is both lush and spacious, giving the listener room to swim, dip or fly between verses.
Of her impending debut album release, Niamh Bury says: “I’m so excited to be releasing
this collection of songs I’ve had with me for some time. I’m very proud of it and the
wonderful people who worked on it with me. I learned so much making it, and feel very
lucky to be letting it out into the world.”
With influences as wide-ranging as Laura Marling, Fiona Apple and Paul Simon, to name a few, Niamh Bury’s music will resonate with fans of artists like Big Thief, Ye Vagabonds and Billie Marten. Niamh has collaborated and shared the stage with acts like Dermot Kennedy, Ye Vagabonds, Martin Hayes, Myles O’Reilly, Niamh Regan and Cinder Well.
In 2023, Niamh was hand-picked by Dermot Kennedy to play with him in an exclusive gig
at one of Dublin’s favourite pubs, The Long Hall, as part of Guinness’s Live and Rising
campaign.
She has performed at St. Patrick’s Festival, Body & Soul, Quiet Lights, and Dún Laoghaire
Folk Festival, captivating audiences with uniquely stirring vocals, adept lyricism, and
striking interpretations of old songs. Niamh is one of the chief organisers of the iconic traditional singing session The Night Before Larry Got Stretched, which famously takes place in The Cobblestone Pub on the last Sunday of every month and whose founders include members of Lankum.
